Copper Cable Higonokami (Folding Knife) - Beornidas
In honor to the ageless higonokami design and the art of upcycling waste materials, Beornidas presents a special edition foldable knife made from scrap, a poem to the beauty and long life of metals.
The blade is forged from a savaged elevator cable of high carbon steel intertwined with some nickel strands and a cutting edge of high carbon steel* (san-mai). The encrusted pieces of nickel add some toughness and are utterly unaffected by the etching, creating random eye-catching shiny spots. *You can choose between swedish uddeholm steel or japanese aogami (blue paper) steel.
The handle is made by hammering flat and folding an old copper pipe, and etching it to create a random green/blueish patina, which is protected by a layer of shellac. Blade and handle are riveted together with a copper nail.
8.5-9 cm long blade (6.5-7 cm cutting edge) Handle about 10x2cm.
This knife is individually crafted upon receipt of an order, thus sizes & grain (of wood & steel) may vary lightly, yet the overall proportions, materials and craftsmanship remain unchanged.
